We aim for high returns, monetary and otherwise. What we can practically do depends on the magnitude of resources that are afforded to us to be at our disposal; what expertise can we gainfully command; what kind of a gun are we under (do you have us over a barrel, not the least); how idealistic are the feathers we flock with.
How idealistic!?
Well, no idealism no calling; no wish no impetus; no achievement no satisfaction.
On the other hand, no profits no resources; no money no talk; no black ink (as opposed to a bottom line being written in the red) no following. We have to strike a balance.
Right opportunities do no come in by the bushels; yet every crook has a cranny. We have learned to be patient. We deliberate to strategize; concentrate to pounce. We do not diversify to pacify; we choose, to maximize.
When we read numbers, we are more into reading minds.
